How I came to create StretchUK

Early life and Education

In my early life I was the sporty, athletic type. Running was my thing, middle distance running in particular. I also had a knack for picking up skills quickly so this led to me competing in all manner of sports over the years and many of them to a pretty high standard. However, all that athletic activity ruined my body.

After my education where I obtained a degree in Sports and Exercise Science, a Postgrad diploma in Sports Psychology and a PGCE to teach PE at secondary level I taught for a while in schools and colleges.

Work life

My love of fitness drew me towards Personal Training (PT) and before long I set up my first business Lisa Foley Fitness. It was a home based PT business which grew to a team of 14 personal trainers delivering home based training to clients throughout the North West. The company evolved and we expanded to include Pilates and Yoga instructors within the team.

Yoga and Stretching

I went to my first Yoga class in my early 30’s and I knew this was going to support me in healing my broken body so it soon became a constant. This coincided with me becoming a mum to two boys, Zach and Theo. Work life went on hold for a little while and a new obsession of stretching and Yoga was born.

Whilst the boys were young, I decided that my training methods would change. No more intense training as my body needed to heal. I developed a committed yoga practice, started playing with different forms of stretching, and explored calisthenics.

This led to a whole new approach. I started to take my clients through stretch sequences, introducing them to a blend of yoga and functional dynamic stretching and the art of healing the body through movement.

STRETCH UK was born

I was compelled to dive deeper into my yoga practice so embarked on Yoga Teacher Training at Sangye Yoga School in London in 2022. This introduced me to the world of hands-on ‘assists’. I started to use assisted stretches with clients and soon after developed a full-body sequence.

This approach resonated with clients and having found my purpose I took further training to become a qualified Stretch Therapist… StretchUK was born!
